OFFSHOOTS YOOOO

Posted in Acoustic, Ambient, Club, Dance, Disco, Disco House, Dub Step, Electro, Electronica, Experimental on February 23, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

It has been to long since my words have come across this corner of the information super highway, but like my other compadres i have jumped on a new project. ELEPHANT SHOESSS is my new adventure. Much like the 317 crew this blog profiles for the most part electro with a few variations here and there. Come check me out if you feel the need, got some groovy tunes for everyone’s ears.

317 will be missed. The boys and I have had a great time running the site. The love of music is passed on through not only Aereal Noise, an other offshoot of 317 but also my new adventure Elephantshoesss. It is sad to see things go, but chapters concluded and eras end. The Elephant Crew is still in the opening stages of this blog so there are a few adjustments and considerations still needed to be made, but nonetheless some attention and traffic i am sure will get things moving fast. So enjoy lighting a fire under my ass with a little love for the former 317 readers.

miamihorror

Miami Horror is phenomenal.  I like nearly everything Benjamin Vanguarde produces under his alias.  The Australian native seems fixated on staying home by filling his calender with dates devoted to his home country.  We need to somehow get him overseas after the Australian tour.  Vanguarde’s newest is the first single from the 2010 album Illumination.  It’s definitely worth the peak.

Miami Horror – Sometimes

Miami Horror’s Make You Mine is one of a kind.  It has laid the foundation to a plethora of newly constructed remixes that simply rock the world.  Check out Cassian and Falke‘s versions here, but despite the remix the original cannot be beat.  Funky and fresh you just can’t find another ‘oldie’ that renders what this can.

A-Trak

Last Monday A-Trak released his much anticipated remix to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Heads Will Roll. The teaser was spectacular but the full length track is unbelievably better.  I didn’t get a chance to post it earlier so if you don’t have it grab it below.  A-Trak goes wild on it. He kicks in a variety of verses and sporadic beats that will have clubs and parties everywhere craving for more.  I pitty the track that has to unfortunately follow this mix wherever it is played.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – You Are Never Alone With Model 21 (Justin Faust Club Remix)

Ultracity came around with a new remix to Grum‘s Runaway that is damn good.  It lightens up the original a little bit. Grum’s original is not half bad either, and well neither is Doctor Detroit.  Enjoy the whole package.

Grum – Runaway (Ultracity Remix)

BONUS!

Reminiscent of the So Electric instrumental vibe I miss from Lifelike.

Relation – Your Tiny Mind (Lifelike Radio Edit)

meterhead

LA-based METERHEAD has put together a fantastic new EP featuring three great remixes (Wale, Acid Girls, and The Black Lips).  I can’t get enough of this Acid Girls remix right now.  It’s my personal favourite and comes ready for the hardwood. Get ready to move.

Acid Girls Feat Frankmusik – Wake Up (METERHEAD Remix)

PinkIsPunk

Pink is Punk caught my attention with another ridiculous remix.  This time a Dub-styled heavy hitter version of Rondo Parisiano.  It’s real simple but effective and the base line won’t quit.  Easy to catch yourself head bobbin’ too.

SomethingALaMode – Rondo Parisiano (Pink Is Punk Remix)

florence

The XX recently updated their show listings for the upcoming season and have included some special Canadian dates. Be sure to check out one of the following venues.  Their new-ish remix of Florence + The Machine’s You’ve Got The Love is excellent.

Nov 26.09 – Vancouver @ The Commodore Ballroom

Dec 02.09 – Toronto @ Mod Club

Dec 03.09 – Montreal @ Le National

monarchy

The new demo from Monarchy is impressive to say the least.  The London duo are bringing some flare to some soft electro jams.  The track starts off slow until the melodies break into one another, from there it simply takes off.  I’m digging every second of it.  It’s hard to throw out a comparison for you because there’s many different elements to it.  A great mood track to carry you throughout the night.  Brilliant.  I wish I had a label so I could attempt to sign these guys.

Monarchy – Gold In The Fire (Demo)

russ chimes

Russ Chimes is a pretty sure thing when it comes to providing gold for the dance floor.  His latest remix comes from LA Nights, which is now available on itunes.  It’s the typical smash from Chimes who never ever seems to disappoint.  Myspace is a good place to catch more bangers.

Fabian – Heatwave (Russ Chimes Remix)

chromeo

I’m sure by now you’ve all caught the new single Night by Night from Chromeo released a few weeks back.  All the remixes have came and gone and for now, I found one that really leaves a punch.  Skream’s remix just barely edged out the new version from DJ Anonymous.  The laidback take does wonders to compliment the pop-based lead vocals from Dave 1.  But I still love the funky rework Anonymous does.  Anyway I included both, if you feel like sharing post your fav.  If you don’t have the original electric avenue has it for you here.

Chromeo – Night By Night (Skream Remix)

Chromeo – Night By Night (DJ Anonymous Remix)

Alan Braxe is one of the few individuals who can reproduce mainstream music into listening gold.  Not that teeny boppers don’t have an ear for great music….”To the window! To the wall!” haha; I’m just saying that Braxe definitely knows how to turn it up a notch and it doesn’t matter what piece of music you start him out with.  The newest remix to hit us last week was Broken-Hearted Girl.  Fantastic Dub remix, but there’s a slow and bothersome Radio Edit out there… so don’t get confused.  The ‘right’ version is listed below.

Beyoncé – Broken-Hearted Girl (Alan Braxe Dub Remix)

The interview above is crazy fascinating and Too Many Sebastians led me to it so thanks for that.

night flight

This track is awesome.  Amazing disco vibes that hail samples from the incredible Stevie Wonder.  The long instrumental interlude is so impressive Stevie’s vocals are not really needed; but when those sample’s do come in.. wow, he kills it.  I know a few other great instrumentals by The Revenge, however nothing quite hits me like this.

tiesto

A friend gave me a heads up to some delicious collaborations between Tiesto and Tegan and Sara the other day.  Normally I’m not a big fan of T&S despite their uniqueness, but Tiesto adds an electric twist creating one deadly electro-pop combination.  I haven’t heard much from Tiesto lately but that doesn’t mean he’s not busy.  You can find him currently on a US tour lasting throughout October.  Those looking for a road trip can travel down to Ohio to catch his closest upcoming show on Oct 12 (Cleveland) or Oct 13 (Columbus).  These two tracks particularly reinforced the theory to never judge something by its cover.  Enjoy as always. Thanks Amels.

N.A.S.A.

Another huge collaboration with the N.A.S.A. crew has come our way.  This time remixed by La Riots.  If you caught the last one on here (Gifted) then you know that another mash-up has been long overdue.  Within is an electric rap showdown of heavier pop beats…  MUSIC! MUSIC! MUSIC! MUSIC!

N.A.S.A feat. Method Man, E40 & DJ Swamp – Music (La Riots Remix)

flightfacilities

Flight Facilities made an impact on me with their new full funk track in Best Party Ever.  Definitely one hell of a feel good jam. The vocals are reminiscent of great seventies funk.  Flight Facilities adds in some contemporary flare with the delicious sax breaks and some great electro grooves.  A party jam indeed but you may want to bring out the bell bottoms and roller skates just in case.

turzi and co

There’s been tons of new goodness coming out this past week.  I’m so stoked to share these tracks! Last night also marked the opener to the 2009 NHL season.  Fuck yeah, I’m all smiles!

New beats in Buenos Aires!  (I hope they knew before we all did).  Tellier & Turzi connected to give us one hell of an instrumental.  Whether its knockin down harmony or throwing together some great dance beats these boys know how to get it done.  This mix has some great rhythm to it, and if you let it, will easily eat the next five minutes of your life in a surreal way.

Turzi & Sebastien Tellier – Buenos Aires

xx

The XX are phenomenal.  Their sound is largely eclectic and very original.  I jumped onto the wagon when they first appeared on here a few weeks ago.  Absolute perfect for those seeking a chill, mood track.  This song below is an extended edit.  Therefore it has been extended into a bar of solid gold.  Recommended for those seeking to drift off into the night and simply fade away.

The XX – Night Time (What Kind Of Breeze Do You Blow Extended Edit)

cutcopy

Cut Copy graced everyone last week with a new remix, and what a remix at that.  Their spin on Munk’s Back Down is excellent, but hey I’m a bit biased when it comes to Cut Copy having loved almost everything by them since being first introduced to the Australian crew.  But seriously how can one not be stoked over this when those keys interrupt the interlude a minute and a half into the sequence?

Munk – Back Down (Cut Copy Jackmaster Remix)

lifelike

These final two tracks are unreal and they were both introduced to me by Tracasseur. Although, it was especially nice of them to put Lifelike back on our radar by posting a great interview, which you can all read here.  I thought my Lifelike library was fairly extensive but those guys showed me I was missing one large extensive piece to the collection.  Everything about this track is solid, I’m not sure where to begin but I would ‘dub’ it one of the best electro-dance love songs I’ve heard in a long time.  Thanks fellas.

Lifelike – Running Out (Extended Version)

tesla

ODahl, ODahl! Tesla Boy does make a beauty canvas to use, however this new mix to Electric Lady is something else.  Try to stay still and play this.  Didn’t work did it?  Get your boogie on.

Simply Groovin!

discodeviance

Disco Deviance is deliciously funky.  Get On Up, my personal favourite, is from a short 12″ that also includes Pushin On.  The track list is small but it’s a powerful combination.  The vocals carry themes of early soul music. Echoing a real retro sensation with contemporary electro beats makes this into one hell of a disco delight.  You will definitely be groovin’ to this if either of those genres tickle your fancy.

Disco Deviance – Get On Up (Situation Edit)

nightdrugs

Another dynamite remix from Night Drugs! These guys are stellar and the track featured below is no exception.  They cite their major influences as James Brown and A-Trak so you know a rooted funk  mix is on the way.  Star-t is an upbeat electro-funk track worth checking into.  Catchy and constant right through.

Titan – Star-t (Night Drugs Remix)

Tedd

Moving away from the funky electro beats, I came across an older mix from UK native T.E.D.D. It  uses some pretty historic house samples in which I’m sure many of you will recognize.  The switch from house to disco-electro throughout is great for the dancefloor.  So much I’m looking forward to the next party to through this one down again.
